Trackmania Nations is a simple racing game for Windows PC.
Trackmania Nations was designed by Nadeo/Ubisoft who designed a series around Trackmania as well as boating simulation games. Trackmania Nations takes a look at competition through a spirit of cooperation and fun. The game rates high on the social possibilities inherent in the game. It offers game customization options along with a full editor for creating tracks and cars. There are 7 different race environments which can be tackled against the AI or human players online. The developers note that it is arcade style driving fun.
To run Trackmania on a PC the player will need Windows XP/Vista/7 with a minimum Pentium IV 1.6GHz or AMD Athlon XP1600+, 3D graphics card: 16 MB, 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible, RAM of 256 MB for XP or 512 MB for Vista/7, 16 bit DirectX compatible sound card, and a hard drive with 1.7 GB free space.
The game style is loose, drive on the tracks and have fun. Try things such as ramps, jumps, looping, and wallrides. Once the player has practised a bit they can move on to compete against other real human players, make their own tracks, and edit and share videos. The game was designed for the Electronics World Cup and is intended to help players to train for the qualifiers to take part in the Electronics World Cup. Held in Paris, the Grand Final of the Electronics World Cup will take place live in front of 40,000 spectators. Grand prize is $400,000 dollars.
In the spirit of this real-world event, Trackmania Nations has unique features like the Stadium, up to date graphics, ability to customize cars and race in each country's colours. Additionally, peer-to-peer data exchange will be offered.
There are three modes for playing Trackmania Nations - solo against the computer, online with friends, or using the multiplayer mode online to play against fans around the world. In solo Trackmania medals can be won and tracks unlocked. Online multiplayer features worldwide ranking scores.
Nadeo/Ubisoft made it simple for players to get started. An online profile requires two lines of information, the car can be controlled with the arrow keys, and lots of tracks are ready for practise and play. Though the track and cars may look simple, they have also been designed realistically and accurately. Interaction with the online community boosts the fun players have when playing the racing game.
For technically savvy players, Nadeo offers free computer code on their website. Players can pick the code they like and create apps which will work inside the Trackmania racing game. Other code is located in 'open source projects' which can be modified or contributed to on the fly. Examples of this are ManiaLib, ManiaLive, and Trackmania Web Services For SDK.
ManiaLib is intended to help PHP programmers. It provides a light PHP framework for coders to create and develop Manialinks. The project gives programmers object-oriented libraries to work from. ManiaLive is all about dedicated server management. Host players with servers can customize multiplayer games on dedicated servers. Features can be added such as map rating, global records, and custom multiplayer modes and mods. Plugins are available to help with the tasks to help the individual game master meet the intended goal. TrackMania web services SDK for PHP is a portal where websites and applications can interact with the Trackmania game as well as the company's services. It provides an open-source PHP SDK.
